Luke 2: 1-20; Hebrews 2: 1-9
There is a song in the Broadway musical Mame which contains the words, “We need a little Christmas right this very minute.” How true those words are. Probably some of you are pessimistic about our world, our church, our own lives. You may be feeling it takes more faith than you possess to believe in the triumph of Christ in our type of world. That feeling is not unknown in the Bible. The writer of the letter to the Hebrews bewailed the fact that they did not see everything going under God’s control. But what rescued him from despair was his ability to see Jesus. Just that sight made him smile and restored and renewed his faith. In church on Christmas Eve Sunday we too will try to see Jesus and perhaps we will be able to leave church on Christmas Eve Sunday morning with a smile on our faces.
