Our reading from Joshua is about a river; it is about Israel crossing the Jordan into the Promised Land. At first, the Jordan is just a river, just another river in the Bible, but not for long. When Israel crossed the Jordan to enter the Promised Land, the meaning of Jordan changed forever. Christianity has deep and wide connections to the Jordan. Sunday School pictures of the Jordan depict it as a beautiful river with blue water. From the back wall of thousands of baptisteries flows the blue crystal Jordan that is indelibly inked into Christian hearts. The Jordan goes into us on the day of our baptism and flows through our veins forever. Israel crossed Jordan into the Promised Land. Jesus was baptized there. Where was your Jordan?
