MUSIC At FBC

Rev. Cheri Grizzard is an ordained American Baptist Minister who has served pastorates in El  Paso and Hudson, Illinois. She has also served interim pastorates in Towanda and Normal. She served as the Music Minister at National Baptist Memorial Church, Washington, D.C. and First Baptist Church, Normal, Illinois. Cheri served as the Director of the Center Singers at ISU.  Rev. Grizzard has a B.A. in Music from the University of Kentucky, a M.M. in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Maryland, and a M.Div. from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Bell Choir and Chancel Choir Rehearsals to Begin Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Mark your calendars for the beginning of choir rehearsals, Wednesday, September 3rd 

Bell choir will rehearse at 5:15 p.m.

and Chancel choir will rehearse at 6:45 p.m. 

Wednesday dinner will continue at 6:00, between the two rehearsals.

There will be several new (and some not so new) faces among our musicians in the coming weeks. First of all, we’re excited to welcome Susan Klotzbach as our new organist. Susan  lives in Bloomington and is also organist for the chapel at Illinois Wesleyan University. She brings with her a wealth of experience, great musical skill, and a love of worship and the church.

Our worship music is made possible by the dedicated work of professional and amateur music personnel. If you or family members wish to praise God through music, the following choirs are available: 

Our music ministry 2007 - 2008

September Through May

The fall of 2007 provides an opportunity for everyone to get a fresh start in serving and praising the Lord through our Music Ministry. We are adding flexibility to our choir ministry. Our younger children’s choir, the Melody Makers, is for all children age four through third grade. Our older children’s choir, Harmony Singers, is for third graders and older. This means that parents of third graders may choose which choir best suits the needs and interests of their child.

The Chancel Choir is open to any adults and high school students who want to grow as Christian musicians and participate in worship leadership.  The choir sings in most Sunday Worship Services.  The choir rehearses Wednesdays from 6:45 -- 800 p.m. and Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

The Chancel Bell Choir is another opportunity for adult musicians.  The Chancel Bell Choir plays monthly in Sunday Worship during the school year.  Rehearsals are on Wednesdays, 5:15 -- 6:15 p.m. September thru May.

Our  Children's Choirs meet during the sermon time each Sunday morning and performing in the Worship Service once a month.

The Melody Makers is a choir for all 4-year-olds through 3rd graders.

The Harmony Singers is a choir for children in grades 3-8, which offers more advanced content and part-singing.

The Youth Praise Team is newly forming and meets periodically in conjunction with the youth group, which is currently scheduled on Sunday afternoons from 12:00-1:30.

 There are also opportunities to be part of Ensembles, both instrumental and vocal.  Ensembles rehearse and perform periodically.
