Women’s Ensemble: “Blessing”

Businesses proudly declare that they’re ready to serve us “24/7.” We’ve come

to expect that we can have anything, any time. What does our dependence on

the perpetual marketplace do to our idea of Sabbath? Indeed, is Sabbath

possible—or even desirable—in our 21st century world? Can we reclaim

Sunday as our day of rest?

YOU ARE INVITED

to a

CELEBRATION OF MINISTRY

September 7, 2008

(immediately after worship)

Displays in Fellowship Hall will

present the many opportunities and groups

available to members and friends of

First Baptist Church.

Come see the new and different

Sunday School and group

activities being offered this fall.

IT’S ALMOST TIME

Starting on September 7th the children

of First Baptist Church will get to

experience their Bible lessons through

several different means. Again this year we are using a

rotational curriculum. However, this year we are adding

games, storytelling, and simple science to the rotation

schedule. We still need several helpers and teachers for

this curriculum.

Contact Christy Martin at 383-2399 or e-mail Christy at

rcmartin@mtco.com if you are interested in teaching a

class or being a helper.

SAFEGUARDING YOUR CHILDREN

Abductions, kidnappings, and random acts of violence

have made the world a more dangerous place. If

tragedy strikes we need to be prepared. On Sept. 7th,

as part of our Celebration of Ministry, the Parish Nurses

will have a table set up in Fellowship Hall with

information on how to safeguard your children and

grandchildren. Identification kits will be available.

Health Tips from the Parish

Nurse

Who should have a shingles vaccination? The Centers for

Disease Control & Prevention recommends the shingles vaccine

for adults age 60 and older, regardless whether you’ve had a

previous episode of shingles. Getting the vaccine won’t guarantee

that you won’t get shingles. But it will likely reduce the length &

severity of the disease. It can also prevent the chronic pain that

can occur after an attack of shingles. Talk with your doctor

before getting the vaccine.
