The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recommends the shingles vaccine for adults age 60 and older, regardless whether you’ve had a previous episode of shingles. Getting the vaccine won’t guarantee that you won’t get shingles. But it will likely reduce the length & severity of the disease. It can also prevent the chronic pain that can occur after an attack of shingles. Talk with your doctor before getting the vaccine.
