“to do good, to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they can take hold of the life that really is life.” 1 Timothy 6:18-19
Dear Friends,
This coming Sunday is what we call “Consecration Sunday.” We have a wonderful tradition of making pledges for giving in the coming year on Consecration Sunday. Although we do not expect every person to make a pledge, we hope that you have been faithful in prayer and meditation in preparation for us to explore together how you and I can take hold of the “life that really is life.”
Our pledges are an important part of the way our church plans its finances. We have already sent out cards for you to use in considering what you will give next year. As you pray and reflect, consider this: In the New Testament Greek the word “treasure” and “foundation” are the same. God is not just calling us to give. God is calling us to a new quality of life, a new freedom as we think in a new way about our finances. That quality of living is a priceless treasure and also the solid foundation on which we can build our individual lives and our life as a community of faith here at First Baptist. In your personal prayers this week and as you gather with others in church, remember to invite God to guide you in your calling to “live free.”
